The Rivers School Conservatory Helps Student Musicians Succeed

A principal of Baystone Development, Roy MacDowell is a previous president of the MacDowell Company, a landscape construction firm he founded in 1968. Roy MacDowell has also served as the president of the board of trustees of the Rivers School.

A college preparatory school in Weston, Massachusetts, the Rivers School offers coeducational classes for students in 6th through 12th grade. Established in 1915, the day school boasts a comprehensive academic, artistic, and athletic curriculum that exemplifies its dedication to perseverance and integrity. One of the school’s notable programs is the Rivers School Conservatory, an all-ages jazz and classical music school.
In addition to private lessons and classes for children and adults, the Rivers School Conservatory offers a suite of lessons specifically for students of the Rivers School. Open to students in 9th through 12th grade, the program provides 15 advanced-placement courses in subjects like ear training, improvisation, and music theory.
Students attend their regular music classes during the school day and then participate in conservatory classes in later sessions. To be considered for the program, students must pass an audition, pass an ear training and theory placement test, and provide two letters of recommendation.
